History Con Manila 2018: Battle for Manila Exhibit
This was a project by Sound Images Multi-Media Services funded by Veteran's Bank. HistoryCo was an annual event featuring the programs and themes that were usually produced by History Channel that started in 2016 and was put at a halt due to the global pandemic. I was hired to be part of the design team for the annual event and I am always assigned to design the exhibit set-up that featured specifically World War 2 in the Philippines. With the 2018 event I was assigned to design and supervise the construction/set-up of the exhibit floor assigned to us. As expo's or conferences go, there will always be sudden changes due to exhibitor logistics and time constraints on site. Thought there were fixed designs that were approved prior the ingress, we had to re-assess and make some slight changes in the designs based on the revised floor plans done during set-up day.
Good thing the group was adaptable and we delivered the desired outcome during the three day event.
The project required the iconic image of a Sherman tank entering the walled city of Intramuros during the Battle for Manila(Philippines) during World War 2.
The initial design covered a bigger floor space for comfortable walk throughs.

The Battle of Manila Display became a crowd favorite with people doing selfies with the center display which is the iconic Sherman tank smashing through the great walls of INTRAMUROS.
We made sure that the centerpiece be made of soft foam and rubber to make it safe for anyone who would stand beside it. They can step on it, hold on to it with out any danger to them. The structure was also sturdy enough not to be damaged by visitors too.
The actualized WW2 scene in the History Con event. The Walled city entrance which is made of styro-foam was scaled down to comply with the height limit for display structures in the event. The Sherman tank is made of crafted black rubber foam.

The tracks and all the other parts that make up the tank are all made of foam-rubber, all hand crafted.
Even the tools that is placed on the mock-up tank are also made of rubber.
